Sprint Start
Sprint-start offers a whole package for people to make positive lifestyle changes.
Sprint-Start Nutrition
The nutritional aspect of the Sprint Start workshops will have two main themes:
1) Cooking
2) Education on nutrition
These will differ slightly for the adult and children’s workshops.
Children
Cooking
• Cooking is fun!
• Very simple recipes or food preparation that they can cook/prepare and eat
• Healthy food tastes nice (and looks good, lots of brightly coloured fruits and vegetables)
• To give them a sense of achievement
• Safety in the kitchen
Nutrition
• Basic information on vitamins and minerals, using foods to explain a point. E.g. bananas for energy, spinach for strength, fruits and vegetables for immunity etc
• Explain why putting in the right fuel is important (using Iwan as an example! Good role model, what does Iwan eat and why?)
• Very basic sugars, fats, protein, fibre and water why we need them, why some foods can be detrimental for our health.
• Where food comes from, this depends on children’s knowledge, a trip to Sunnyfields
• organic farm or equivalent?
• Some sort of chart system for measuring their progress, (depending on age of children).
• Gold star for eating fruit/vegetables/school lunch/water/breakfast etc
• Our aim is to get the children eating a reasonably healthy breakfast, school lunch and healthy snacks in the day.
Services

After-school sessions
Which can include a range of exercise activities such as Football, Martial Arts, Gym and Squash and also the Cook & Eat food programme.
